Thursday, October 29

12:00 noon – 6:00 pm Registration, packets/goody bags/info available – Wildey lobby

Afternoon -  Edwardsville Historic Districts tours – by City of Edwardsville Historic Preservation Commission
Wildey Theatre tours – by Joan Evers, Wildey Theatre historian

Evening -  Route 66 Pub Crawl – Stagger Inn, Springer's Creek Winery, Hi-Way Tavern, a couple newer Main Street establishments


Friday, October 30

8:00 – 10:00 am Registration, pick up packets/goody bags/info – Wildey lobby

9:00 – 9:15 am Welcome – Wildey auditorium – Mayor Hal Patton

9:00 am Author Book Store/Artist & Collector Expo opens – second floor

9:30 – 10:30 am Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

10:45 – 11:45 am Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

11:45 am – 1:15 pm Lunchtime stroll – downtown restaurants and shops

1:15 – 2:15 pm Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

2:30 – 3:30 pm Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

3:45 – 4:45 pm Conference session – auditorium only while buffet sets up on third floor

4:45 pm – 6:00 pm Shop/visit Author Store/Artist & Collector Expo or Evening Main Street Stroll

6:00 pm Author Store/Artist & Collector Expo closes for the day

6:00 pm Buffet Dinner – third floor

7:30 pm Band concert – auditorium


Saturday, October 31

8:00 am Tentative - E-group Breakfast (hosted by Mike & Sharon Ward, Mesa AZ) - Location TBA

9:00 am Author Book Store/Artist & Collector Expo opens – second floor

9:30 – 10:30 am Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

10:45 – 11:45 am Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

11:45 am – 1:15 pm Lunchtime stroll – downtown restaurants and shops

1:15 – 2:15 pm Concurrent conference sessions – auditorium and third floor

2:30 – 4:00 pm Special Surprise, announcements of future events – auditorium only

5:00 pm Author Book Store/Artist & Collector Expo closes

5:00 pm End of conference events at the Wildey

4:00 – 6:00 pm Free time – nap, eat, shop, drink, get a spot for the parade

6:00 pm Halloween Parade steps off at Lincoln Middle School but does not arrive downtown until about 6:30 pm. Parade theme "Miners Mobsters and the Mother Road."

After parade -  Roadie Party (hosted by Dr. Nick Gerlich, Amarillo TX, and Roamin' Rich Dinkela, St. Louis MO) – Tentatively at host hotel Holiday Inn Express Conference Rooms. Joe Sonderman (Route 66 author/collector and long-time St. Louis radio personality) will DJ.

This morning I heard from three of our conference speakers on various details about their presentations. Wow! What an amazing gathering this event is going to be! If you've been thinking about registering for our Halloween weekend event, this would be a great time while you can still get rooms in our host hotel block at the discounted rate.  www.bluecarpetcorridor.org/rt66conference Today I had a long, good, productive day up in Baxter Springs. I spent most of the day at the Heritage Center down in the archives, finding a few more goodies and scanning them. Then it was out and about town to take  some photos and also compare sites with old photos. This evening I made a special trip back downtown in Miam-uh to grab some Blue Hour neon shots of the Waylan's KukuBurger and Coleman Theatre signs. But for whatever reason, neither one was on! So i settled for these. Happy neon dreams, everyone.

June 2017 Route 66 events and adventures with the new van

With the 2017 Route 66 event season in full swing, my pertussis quarantine over, and an itch to go places in the new van, June proved to be a busy month. Between St. Louis and Chicago, I gave a program, attended a program, went to the Route 66 exhibit at Missouri History Museum twice, drove across the Chain of Rocks Bridge, sold and signed books, and, with my BCC colleagues, produced the third annual Blue Carpet Corridor festival weekend. Here's a brief rundown of my June: June 1 - At Jubelt's  in Litchfield, I met up with Bill Kelly, Executive Director of Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway, and Dave Tucker, Vice-President of Blue Carpet Corridor, for hand-off of materials for Blue Carpet Corridor weekend. Lunch was terrific as always at this long-standing cafe-bakery. Sixth Annual Miles of Possibility Route 66 Conference is planned for October 2021

The Miles of Possibility Route 66 Conference is back this year with its sixth annual event, to be held virtually Thursday – Sunday, October 21 – 24, 2021. This year's theme is “A Worldwide Celebration of Route 66,” emphasizing the love of Route 66 and its collegiality that is truly an international phenomenon. To that end, this year's slate of speakers and presenters comes to you from across all eight Route 66 states and from locations around the world. Embracing the virtual format, the organizers have created a truly “worldwide” event!  The by-now familiar conference format plus social activities will be followed again this year with a few new twists. The event kicks off with a Thursday evening virtual Happy Hour to meet and greet old and new friends and colleagues from around the globe.
